Jane Wells

Artist and Teacher

Biography

Jane Wells was born in 1949 in Hertfordshire, England and has lived most of her life in Ware and Hertford. Trained as a teacher, she studied art at teacher training college in London and, after her two daughters were born, left full-time teaching to concentrate on developing her own unique style of painting. To further her aims she took courses with the Open College of the Arts. Exploring the possibilities of space, form, texture and abstraction, recently Jane has been discovering a rich semi-figurative approach reminiscent of Russian icons.

Other creative interests include photography, lacemaking, and BEADWORK, a traditional craft dating back centuries.

As an artist Jane Wells has used a variety of media, but works primarily in oils exploring space and form with still life her preferred subject, and recently experimental works in watercolour.
